What is TimeRambles?

We are a small family run business which was conceived a few years ago but mothballed by lockdown. We aim to offer interesting days out based on a Geological or Heritage theme. The concept is a “field trip” for adults or families where you are picked up and returned to a specific location. We have 6 seats in our Mercedes Vito to take you to various sites that are linked by a theme. We aim to give you an enjoyable, different and fun day out that allows you to walk, talk and learn about the landscape and the people that inhabited it. Being small, we can be flexible and responsive to your needs to ensure that you have a great experience. Unfortunately, weather cannot be guaranteed but hopefully worked around! The pricing of the trips is flexible based on the numbers in a group and the distance of transportation in the minibus. Please enquire via email when making a booking.

Meet Jenny

Having taught Archaeology A level and adult learners for many years in Taunton, I have run many day trips in the local area. I have appeared on Time Team, well at least parts of me, as my students helped the team dig at various local sites. These day trips concentrate in Somerset where the variety of heritage landscapes range from the Prehistoric to the WWII Taunton Stop Line. Sharing my enthusiasm for telling the story of our past which links surviving structures to the sometimes-mythical interpretations, is something I aim to share during these trips.

Meet Rob

I am a recently retired A level teacher of Geology and Geography with 30 years experience of taking field trips in the SW of England and in Europe. I have realised I have missed being on field trips and am itching to witter on about the geology and geomorphology of this fascinating part of the world to an interested audience rather than my dogs. If you want to know why and how these landscapes formed and can still remember the formation of ox-bow lakes but not much more, hopefully I can rekindle your interest.

F.A.Q's

How difficult are the walks?

The walks are graded using the OS grading of:

  • Leisurely – mainly flat along paths but may require walking shoes dependant on the weather.
  • Moderate – some inclines which are steady rather than steep and the paths maybe rough. Suitable footwear is advisable, but it is affected by seasonal and weather variations.
  • Challenging – Some steep slopes and or difficult rocky paths, walking shoes essential and some degree of fitness or determination required. However, they will be all public footpaths and do not require climbing skills and not at high altitudes.

How much will it cost?

The price of each trip is dependant on the distance that the group is transported and the personal needs of a group. In general, a day trip with a pickup and drop off will be around £70 per person but with discounts for groups. If you meet at a start point of the walk the price of the trip will be arranged individually. Some shorter trips will be at lower prices, and these will be mentioned on the walk page.

Do It need to know much about the subject?

No, you do not; just an interest, as we can hopefully provide the knowledge
