Hartland Quay circular walk
This is a Geology geek’s paradise with some of the best folded rocks in the SW. The aim is to combine a walk along a very famous section of the SW coastal path with learning some geological skills as well as knowledge. You can, if the group wants, learn geological sketching and some simple mapping of the structures on the foreshore caused to the Variscan Orogeny which is around 250 million years ago.
The cost of the walk is dependant on where you are picked up from. If you meet at the Hartland Quay Hotel car park, the cost is just for the walk and the numbers are restricted to 10 for safety reasons.
Hartland Quay car park meet and walk is £30. Pick up and drop off from Taunton or other locations on route is £70 or £320 for a group of 6.

Additional info
You will need good walking boots as the beach is rocky and the cliff path steep in some sections. It can be muddy and the tide will determine how the day is structured.
Where are we walking?
The walk’s timings are very tide dependant but we aim to walk along the foreshore at Hartland Quay looking at and measuring the degree of folding of the Carboniferous rocks. If the group wants, we can do some simple mapping and then walk along a circular route using the SW coastal path and back looking at Hartland Abbey near Stoke.
